I did my 8K race yesterday and it went fairly well. I would have liked to have been a wee bit faster. I made two errors. One was that I got a bit confused about the diet requirements and had protein the night before the race. Wrong thing to do! Don’t eat a steak the night before a race and I had a few drinks as well…another wrong thing to do. The alcohol will dehydrate you and the protein is very heavy in the body so I didn’t have the fuel that carbohydrates would have given me. I ran the whole thing. It was a beautiful sunny day. We could not have asked for better weather. Running around the Sea Wall in Vancouver is fabulous at anytime. It is always a bonus when the weather is good.
Now that I have made that fundamental error, it will not be repeated. My run started off very strong and then at about the 6K mark I really started to run out of steam and it didn’t help that the last 1/2 K was on an uphill grade.
I was shooting for 45 minutes and I came in at 52 minutes. So not terrible by any means. In three weeks I do the 10K and I want to bring that in under an hour and I know now what I have to do to get there.
I will have to make up a diet plan for pre-race and put it up on my fridge so I remember. This I got switched up and I should know this by now…but it is funny how something just gets stuck in your head and you go with it.
So that one is under my belt and we move on to the next one. Have great day.
